President Muhammadu Buhari has announced the first set of appointments into his administration. President Buhari announced on Sunday evening, May 31st, that Mr. Femi Adesina and Mallam Garba Shehu as his spokesmen.
The announcement comes about 48 hours after President Buhari addressed the nation as President. Last week unconfirmed reports emerged in the media that Femi Adesina, former Managing Editor and Editor-in-Chief of The Sun newspaper was to be appointed Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Buhari.
President Buhari officially stated that Femi Adesina will servce as Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, as rumored. President Buhari also announced that Garba Shehu is appointed to be the Senior Special Assistant for Media and Publicity.
The announcement came in a statement signed by Shehu in Abuja on Sunday night. The statement also added that the President has also approved the appointment of Mallam Lawal Abdullahi Kazaure as the State Chief of Protocol (SCOP).
Mr. Adesina has made his career as a journalist and editor, and is the current President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) and serves as the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of The Sun newspapers. Garba Shehu served as the Director for Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Council. He was also the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors sixteen years ago.
Abdullahi Kazaure is a career Foreign Service official and currently serves in Aso Rock Villa as a Special Assistant for Presidential Matters.
